What is the difference between a Black person and a White person? The only difference is superficial. Asking the same question of men and women? The differences are fundamental.

Now we know who represents superficial change and who represents fundamental change.

LA Times: Bush never lied to us about Iraq

Four years on from the first Senate Intelligence Committee report, war critics, old and newfangled, still don't get that a lie is an act of deliberate, not unwitting, deception. If Democrats wish to contend they were "misled" into war, they should vent their spleen at the CIA.

In 2003, top Senate Democrats -- not just Rockefeller but also Carl Levin, Clinton, Kerry and others -- sounded just as alarmist. Conveniently, this month's report, titled "Whether Public Statements Regarding Iraq by U.S. Government Officials Were Substantiated by Intelligence Information," includes only statements by the executive branch. Had it scrutinized public statements of Democrats on the Intelligence, Foreign Relations and Armed Services committees -- who have access to the same intelligence information as the president and his chief advisors -- many senators would be unable to distinguish their own words from what they today characterize as warmongering.

John McCain, Prisoner of War: A First-Person Account
Monday, June 9, 2008, 11:53 AM - politiFoo
After reading
John McCain's personal account of his time as a POW
, I've come to respect him even more. I'm really humbled by heroes like that.

This section is particularly chilling (emphasis mine):

As you may know, back in 1954, the North Vietnamese had a big hand in toppling the French Government in Paris because the French voters had no more stomach for the Vietnam war their Government was waging at the time. That was the way the North Vietnamese won in 1954—they didn't win in Vietnam.

I wonder what Al Gore's stance on Piracy is?

When I did a little research, I discovered Al Gore called for a crackdown on Piracy just after ceremonially signing Kyoto.

I report, you decipher.

American Interventionism
Thursday, November 8, 2007, 09:15 AM - politiFoo
Great comment from Coob over at Reddit:

A non-interventionist US foreign policy will throw the world into either an uncertain and terrifying place, or one dominated by a power whose influence would be far worse than current perceptions of US hegemony.

American intervention is the reason I speak English and not German, it is what has stopped genocide, it is what has toppled repressed dictators and it is what has defeated both fascism and communism.

Kelo
Thursday, June 29, 2006, 01:18 PM - politiFoo
From Slashdot:

President Bush has issued an executive order whose effect is to undo the previous Kelo decision of the Supreme Court. From the article: 'It is the policy of the United States to protect the rights of Americans to their private property, including by limiting the taking of private property by the Federal Government to situations in which the taking is for public use, with just compensation, and for the purpose of benefiting the general public and not merely for the purpose of advancing the economic interest of private parties to be given ownership or use of the property taken.' The downside is that what was once affirmed consitutionally is now affirmed only in federal law."

I'm glad I voted for that guy.

P for Pimp-slap
Monday, March 20, 2006, 01:57 PM - politiFoo
I saw "V for Vendetta" this weekend. Waste of time and money.

Incidentally, after reading the script, creator of the V comic book, Alan Moore, insisted Warner Bros. remove his name from the project. He told MTV, "[My comic] has been turned into a Bush-era parable by people too timid to set a political satire in their own country… [The film] is a thwarted and frustrated and largely impotent American liberal fantasy of someone with American liberal values standing up against a state run by neo-conservatives — which is not what "V for Vendetta" [the comic] was about."

When the creator of the novel upon which the movie is based asks to have his name removed from the film, you know it's got to be bad. I wish I'd read that before seeing the movie.

Greenhouse theory smashed by biggest stone
Wednesday, March 15, 2006, 11:04 AM - politiFoo

Many natural gases and some of those released by conventional power stations, vehicle and aircraft exhausts act as greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide, natural gas, or methane, and chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs) are all potent greenhouse gases. Carbon dioxide and methane are found naturally in the atmosphere, but it is the gradual rise in levels of these gases since the industrial revolution, and in particular the beginning of the twentieth century, that scientists have blamed for the gradual rise in recorded global temperature. Attempts to reverse global warming, such as the Kyoto Protocol, have centred on controlling and even reducing CO2 emissions.

However, the most potent greenhouse gas is water, explains Shaidurov and it is this compound on which his study focuses. According to Shaidurov, only small changes in the atmospheric levels of water, in the form of vapour and ice crystals can contribute to significant changes to the temperature of the earth's surface, which far outweighs the effects of carbon dioxide and other gases released by human activities. Just a rise of 1% of water vapour could raise the global average temperature of Earth's surface more then 4 degrees Celsius.
